Star guests at the Sunningdale Tullow Oil Golf Day 2011 including Eddie Jordan, Ian Wright, Alan Hansen, Damon Hill and Jamie Redknapp helped to raise a fantastic £130,000 for CLIC Sargent. The fundraising event, now in its thirteenth year, was hosted by CLIC Sargent patrons Eddie and Barry McGuigan at the Sunningdale Golf Club and saw amateur golfers from across the UK coached by celebrity captains.
Sixteen-year-old Rhys Kinsella, who was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a bone cancer, in August 2010, met the stars on the day with his mum Gina, and dad Tony. Rhys, who was supported by the charity, is a huge golf fan and has recently competed in his first junior golf competition.
Amateur golfers will be captained on the day by other top sporting and television celebrities including Matt Smith, Andrew Castle, Matt Prior, Rory Underwood, Steve Redgrave and Chris and John Hollins.
Rhys said: “I had a brilliant day at Sunningdale and can’t believe I got to meet Eddie and so many celebrities. I really love golf and it was a dream come true to be able to spend a day at a really famous golf course and also celebrate the work of a really important charity that supported me and my family.”
Alice Pink, Major Events Manager at CLIC Sargent said: “I would like to say a big thank you to Eddie Jordan and Barry McGuigan, and all our celebrity captains for making this year’s Tullow Oil Golf Day the best yet. I’d also like to thank the Kinsella family for joining us, and everybody who bought a ticket and bid for auction prizes.
“Every penny that we raised at the event will help CLIC Sargent to support children and young people across the UK who are affected by childhood cancer, just like the Kinsellas.”
